Born and raised in
Harlem, I am a mother, a wife, and a concerned resident
of this district. I know the challenges and the
wonders of living in this district, because I am
from the community and it continues to be my home.
I feel that it is time for our government to function
as it was originally intended, by the people and
for the people. My focus is on a better quality
of life for all residents of New York City.
I have always worked to represent those persons
who are traditionally overlooked and underserved
by our officials. This is why I founded a non-profit
organization, Talented Seniors and Youth on the
Move, specifically to address the needs of our young
people and our fastest growing demographic, our
seniors. My history demonstrates my focus on issues
of education, healthcare, housing and safety for
all. I commit myself to three very important principles
that are the foundation of my campaign; advocacy,
accessibility and accountability. I worked to keep
our public schools from being turned over to private,
for-profit corporations. I had the hours of the
Post Office branches in Washington Heights and Manhattanville
extended to serve those who work traditional hours.
I fought for the implementation of 202 housing units
for seniors. I also fought for the Citizen Police
Academy-a program to bridge the gap between the
community and the police department. I have mentored,
motivated and trained participants in the welfare-to-work
programs. I have also been a Breast Cancer Awareness
Month Spokesperson for 2 years and appeared on the
Rosie O’Donnell show for having recruited women
to receive their first mammograms.
I realize that I am fighting an uphill battle, as
I am not a professional politician. I am an ordinary
citizen who cares, just like you.
