This election is about
building bridges of communication in a very large
and diverse district and fighting for the issues
most important to this district. As councilman
I will organize a “District 7 Community Alliance”
made up of community leaders to address issues and
concerns throughout the district.
My candidacy is built upon better community policing,
a cleaner environment, and increased services for
our seniors and our youth.
As most areas in New York City have prospered through
an improved quality of life, our communities have
suffered from neglect. In the City Council, I will
continue my fight for effective community policing
ensuring that our precincts are adequately staffed
to police our communities. I will advocate for more
community interaction and better training for the
officers policing our community.
With a sewage treatment plant, a marine transfer
station, and a diesel bus depot situated side by
side in the heart of the district, our environment
is constantly under siege by toxins and pollutants.
As Councilman, I will fight for more stringent air
monitoring and I will order an investigation into
possible cancer links to the cloud of pollution
that hovers over our community. I will hold hearings
on better and more efficient means of disposing
of our waste. Environmental justice must have greater
importance before we can truly find real
solutions to our waste disposal problem.
We are underutilizing our community’s most valuable
resource - our seniors. It’s increasingly difficult
to survive on fix incomes while food and transportation
costs continually rise. I will fight for more senior
benefits and privileges. Their life experiences
are the keys to resolving many of the problems facing
our youth today. I will fight for funding to provide
our children with more art, music, and sports afterschool
programs.
