For over twenty years,
I have been an active community leader:
- securing over a million dollars for the economic
development of small businesses in Southeast
Queens
- developing academic workshops and economic
development seminars for a cross section of
merchants and aspiring young entrepreneurs
- organizing eighty merchants to provide work
sites and mentoring opportunities for community
youth
- coordinating youth volunteer programs at
senior citizen centers and nursing homes
- advocating for youth services such as the
annual Black College Tour, and
- advocating for senior citizens by helping
them secure Medicaid Benefits and making sure
that the community is responsive to their needs.
My decision to run for the 31st Councilmatic seat
is based on my desire to expand upon the many programs
that I have initiated as a private citizen. I firmly
believe that my election to the City Council will
allow me new and greater opportunities to ensure
quality education for our youth, the economic development
of Southeast Queens and the protection of the health
and welfare of our senior citizens. My history of
community activism demonstrates that my performance
goes beyond being just promises.
I have also been the recipient of numerous honors
and awards. For example, in 1999, I received a Citation
for Outstanding Leadership from the United States
Congress, and a Citation for Community Service and
Leadership from the New York City Council.
