1. What is the most important issue in Council District 13 you would address if elected?

At my urging, the Mayor recently rezoned the Northeast Bronx to stop any future over development and I will continue to protect our communities. I also successfully led the fight to stop the Iroquois Gas Pipeline from running through the heart of Throggs Neck while other city officials have allowed greedy developers easy access to our land. Over development has led to crowded classrooms, and diminished our quality of life.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

In the City Council I’ll continue to fight for the legislation I sponsored. Parents and children are safer now because I sponsored Megan’s Law and added ten thousand more police officers through Safe Streets-Safe Cities. I’ve navigated the Educational system and set a higher standard of learning for our children by voting for Mayoral control of the city schools. I’ve directed millions of dollars to our reading programs in this district. And our local senior centers have depended on my funding priorities to provide their social and health care needs. My constituent services are legendary.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As your Councilman, I have the experience and political clout to get results for our families. I persuaded Barnes and Noble to open in The Bronx and it has become one of its’ most successful store. I secured a half a billion dollar settlement to save Co-op City, and established a scholarship program for SUNY-Maritime. Protecting our children’s safety, advocating for residents, the value of our homes and creating a family friendly community, is what I, Steve Kaufman, will do as your City Councilman. My ability to navigate legislation for the benefit of my constituents is unequaled and former Mayor Ed Koch, current Councilwoman Madeline Provenzano and numerous unions and their membership have enthusiastically endorsed my candidacy.
