“Strong moral fiber,” “uncompromising standards,” and a “no-nonsense style” are attributes that best characterize Simcha Felder. Felder was born, raised, and educated in the Midwood-Boro Park area, where he currently lives with his wife Elana and their four children.

For over six years, Felder has served as Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s Chief of Staff. In this capacity, he has helped thousands of people resolve their problems with city services. Felder made sure the city cleaned up the mosquito-infested LIRR tracks. He helped the NYPD arrange for joint community-police patrols to keep crime down. Working closely with housing organizations, Felder secured millions of dollars in state and city funds for the community.

As a parent of school-age children, Felder wants the public schools to provide our children with a quality education. In Community School Board District 21, almost 50% of fourth graders do not meet reading standards. As a CPA and Professor of Business Management, Felder knows that pouring money into the school system is not the answer. Felder believes that quality teaching is critical and therefore supports merit pay for teachers — which will help the schools recruit and retain the most talented teachers. Felder will also help the Board of Education become more efficient by supporting legislation that empowers the mayor to directly appoint the Schools Chancellor.

With two decades of public service experience, Felder understands how the city bureaucracy works and has a proven record of getting things done. His professional experience and educational background, combined with his passion for helping others, makes him uniquely qualified to serve the people of the 44th City Council District.
