Aida is an experienced
public administrator with a remarkable spirit of
community service. As Director of Cultural Affairs,
she was Borough President Claire Shulman’s liaison
with more than one hundred cultural organizations.
She represented the Borough President on the Board
of Directors of the NY Hall of Science, the Queens
Museum, the Museum of the City of New York and other
prestigious institutions.
Aida contributed to advancing major capital construction
projects including the Louis Armstrong House, the
Flushing Town Hall and the Lewis Latimer House.
At Borough Hall, Aida developed valuable expertise
about all aspects of local government and became
a skilled negotiator on behalf of Queens.
Prior to Borough Hall, Aida was an activist strongly
committed to education, culture, civil rights and
women’s rights. She has written articles about domestic
violence and other social problems, as well as to
educate Latinos about political involvement.
Aida’s platform includes improved public education,
a plan toward safe and affordable housing, neighborhood
beautification, adequate health services, youth
and senior programs, a business improvement district
in Corona, with a new library and a new post office;
crime reduction, improved community relations, urban
environment protection and ESL programs for immigrants.
