Prior Public Experience:
Charles Williams began his public service and community
involvement as the president of a local NYC Housing
project Tenants Association. He served for two years
as chair of the budget and finance committee for
Haryou Act, a Harlem-based Anti-poverty program.
During the past nine years, he has been actively
involved in the School Board of District 10 and
the Fordham Hill Owners Corporation Board. He has
served two terms as treasurer and three terms as
President of the Coop Board.

Charles Williams’s
first elected public office was to Community School
Board 10 in 1993. He was then elected two succeeding
terms in 1996 and 1999. He is the first African
American ever elected to District 10 School Board
and the first person to be elected five consecutive
terms as president.
He is a Certified Social Worker and is currently
a doctoral candidate at Columbia University, specializing
in Behavioral Health. Born and raised in Harlem,
he is the youngest son of five children.
During his tenure as Community School Board 10 president,
he was responsible for citing ten new schools. He
actively participated in the construction reviews
and openings of five of the ten schools. The opening
of those schools provided District 10 with an additional
5200 seats that helped to relieve the overcrowding
in the largest school district in the city and the
second largest in the state.
Williams will bring a unique perspective to the
City Council. Candidate’s platform will focus primarily
on increasing construction of affordable housing,
providing access to quality healthcare for all,
increasing funding for new school construction,
increasing the number of senior citizen/youth programs
and increasing substance abuse programs.
