I proudly represented
our communities for 23 years as Assemblyman and
then served as State Attorney General. For two years,
I have been Community School Board 10 President.
I pledge the same capable, vigorous representation
as your Councilman.
We need experienced leadership because term limits
will produce an entirely new City government next
year. In the State Legislature, I wrote and passed
280 laws, including the Returnable Bottle Bill,
Utility Consumers Bill of Rights, and Child Support
Guidelines Law. I will use my legislative skills
and knowledge of government to benefit our district
and the city.
My top priority is education. I led the fight in
District 10 to raise standards and to establish
two new middle school-high schools. Quality must
continue to be improved, and we must end overcrowding.
We must also ensure sound land-use planning and
economic development. I will support zoning changes
that encourage vibrant local enterprises while protecting
our neighborhoods from inappropriate large-scale
development.
We must protect our local environment, including
our parks and Hudson and Harlem River shorefronts.
I will strenuously oppose construction of a water
filtration plant in Van Cortlandt Park or Jerome
Park.
Public safety is government’s first obligation.
Crime reduction must be maintained. I led the fight
in Albany against assault weapons and repeat violent
criminals, and will work for police resources and
greater security.
My local office will provide help and advice for
all constituents and community groups. I founded
the Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortlandt Development
Corporation, Association of Riverdale Cooperatives,
and Citizens’ Court Monitoring Project. I pledge
to work with them and all other community groups
on your behalf.
I will also work for you with our other elected
officials as a team. My candidacy is supported by
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Congressman Eliot
Engel, State Senator Eric Schneiderman, mayoral
candidates Mark Green and Alan Hevesi, and retiring
Councilwoman June Eisland.
