1. What is the most important issue in Staten Island you would address if elected? Little has changed in the past eight years: our inadequate transportation system remains stagnant. Traffic is worse. The borough is growing and we need to ensure that we have the proper infrastructure to sustain it. As the inevitable development occurs we need more mass transit options, such as more frequent ferry service, to free up our roads and alleviate the traffic congestion for those who must drive.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected? The inappropriate development of Staten Island over the past twenty years has contributed to myriad problems. The North Shore Rail Line has been repeatedly studied, but is still not a shovel-ready project. We are the only borough of NYC that does not have a public hospital. As a graduate of SI public schools, I know the importance of having adequate resources for our teachers to teach our children. There is a lack of affordable housing for seniors wishing to remain on the Island. Public funds are wasted on fish tanks and vineyards, while firehouses are being closed.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office? As a life-long resident of Staten Island, I know the critical issues, and I have the energy and ability to tackle them head on. We need advocacy before compromise. I have consistently been fighting and working to improve the unique quality of life that makes our borough a great place to live, work and raise a family. Active in civic matters and a community volunteer since junior high school, I have a deep commitment to SI. I am a part of the new generation of leadership, and I have the drive and integrity to tirelessly serve the people of Staten Island.
