First hour to be carried on WNBC-TV; second hour will be carried on WNBC’s digital platforms, including nbcnewyork.com

NBC 4 New York/WNBC-TV will host the third and final official Democratic primary debate between "leading contenders" for New York City mayor on June 16 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. WNBC-TV is co-hosting with Telemundo 47/WNJU-TV, Politico, Citizens Budget Commission, and New York Urban League.

The in-person debate will originate from the iconic Studio 8H, housed within NBC world headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. No audiences will be present. The broadcast will be translated into Spanish for WNJU audiences.

“WNBC’s decision to expand the debate on June 16 is great news for voters who will now have more information about the candidates as we near this historic election. We are thrilled that WNBC will expand what promises to be a very lively debate,” said Amy Loprest, Executive Director of the Campaign Finance Board. “Voters will be able to watch all two hours on television by tuning into the city-owned channel, NYC TV.”

"There is great interest in the Democratic primary race for Mayor and we believe that the leading candidates deserve as much time as possible to debate their positions. This is why we have expanded the duration of next week’s debate – with the first hour available over the air on WNBC and the second hour available streamed exclusively for our digital audiences on nbcnewyork.com. We look forward to a spirited exchange of ideas, delivering New York City voters the information they need to rank their choices when they vote,” said Amy Morris, NBC 4 New York Vice President of News.

Candidates appearing in this debate have met nonpartisan, objective, and nondiscriminatory criteria in the city's Campaign Finance Act. For this debate, candidates have qualified for public matching funds or raised and spent $2,250,000. Final eligibility determinations will be based on campaign finance filings that campaigns must file with the CFB before midnight on June 11. There will not be a valid poll for use in determining eligibility for this debate.

Seven of the eight candidates participating in this debate have qualified for and received public matching funds totaling $32,373,764. This is the highest number of mayoral candidates to receive payment and the highest amount paid to mayoral candidates in campaign finance program history.

The candidates participating in the matching funds program must participate in this debate if they meet the eligibility thresholds. Ray McGuire, who is not participating in the city's campaign financing program, has been invited to participate after meeting the eligibility thresholds.
